DAY 7: Causing our brothers & sister to stumble

Today, we are fasting and examining how our words, actions, and example affect those around us. What we do can encourage someone’s faith or make their walk with God more difficult. Our influence carries responsibility, and love calls us to consider more than ourselves.

Let’s ask God to reveal where we have led others toward sin, pressured them to go against their conscience, or wounded their faith through our behavior. This is a day to repent, take responsibility, and make things right where we can. May our lives help our brothers and sisters stand stronger in their faith. Let’s be willing to change when love requires something of us.

Today’s key scriptures…

breakfast: Romans 14 — Pursue peace and avoid putting a stumbling block in another believer’s path

lunch: 1 Corinthians 8 — Let love guide your freedom, considering how your choices affect another person’s conscience

dinner: Matthew 18 — Jesus warns against causing others to stumble and teaches humility, restoration, and forgiveness

Prayer Points:

  1. Lord, reveal where my words or actions have caused someone to stumble.
Ask God to examine your influence and expose careless behavior, harmful advice, or an example that has encouraged sin. Pray for humility to receive correction and repent without making excuses.
    Scripture focus: Matthew 18:6–7.

  2. Teach me to put love for others above my desire to have my own way.
Pray for sensitivity to the conscience and spiritual needs of others. Ask God for wisdom to recognize when a choice you feel free to make could lead someone else into sin.
    Scripture focus: 1 Corinthians 8:9–13.

  3. Help me pursue peace, make amends, and strengthen the faith of others.
Ask God for courage to apologize where you have caused harm and to follow that apology with changed behavior. Pray that your words and example encourage others to grow closer to Christ.
    Scripture focus: Romans 14:19–21.
